    Hello, all...

This is your absentee moderator speaking. ;-)

Thanks for everyone who has sent me e-mail the last couple of days bringing me up to date on the status of this forum and the jeopardy it may or may not be in. Judging from the e-mail I've gotten, there are at least as many of you who lurk about without posting as there are active posters! That's not to say this isn't a very active little community, because it is!

Like many of you, I'm getting quite anxious and nervous about Hostboard remaining viable as a home for this forum. Perhaps it will be in fine form with its potential new owner, but I haven't had the chance to investigate this.

It is quite possible that the best way to proceed is to move this forum (or start a new one) that would be stored on the server space where my main site is located. I pay for that site hosting and for the www.super8filmmaking.com domain registration, but the forum was something I set up on the free Hostboard before setting up the site in its current form.

Now, I am a bit ignorant about such things. I have to find out exactly how to create such a forum from scratch (as opposed to setting up something like a Hostboard forum). Also, I have to find out if my Web site hosting firm will charge me extra for doing this sort of thing, but I suspect that's not such a big deal.

Now, the big question is.... How do I do this in such a way that I can preserve all the posts that are up now? These posts are a valuable resource, I know, and it would take quite some time and effort on everyone's part to recreate this amount of information and opinion. I don't want us to have to do that.

If nothing else, is it possible to save the current messages as some sort of searchable archive, and then start anew?

If anyone can help me with this information (and thus help us all), please feel free. Your advice will be much appreciated.

I apologize for being so uninformed about such matters! I'm a barely adequate HTML coder, and the Super-8 site is a labor of love that unfortunately must be an on-again, off-again pursuit for me. I do promise you all that I will keep the site going for as long as there is interest -- which is basically for as long as Kodak keeps producing Super-8 film! Same story for the forum, one way or another.

    Thanks, all!

The future of Hostboard doesn't seem all gloom and doom, judging by this post from the prospective new owner on the administrators forum.... What do y'all think? (Yeah, I live in the South!)

I just wanted to come by and introduce myself as well as start getting acquainted with everyone and listen to suggestions and concerns on where you envision HB and where I see it going.

I have scanned many forums and want to address 2 main concerns I have seen:

The first concern I want to address is archiving of old threads. I will be "zipping" the entire system and moving it over to the new server. So when it all comes back online we should not have missed a beat

Second, there was mention of the system going to a pay to play. This is not the case as it will remain business as usual

Please be patient in the iniatial week or 2 as I am sure as I will be initialy swamped with mail but will get to each on as fast as I can.

    ...Steven

    Mike,

Thanks for the overview & update. We're cautiously optimistic about the new owner. Please continue to keep your eyes open on this issue! Thanks--
